Elegance & Excellence Since 1915 |
Famous 1915 didn’t start as a brand. It started as a family—standing in the bustle of New York City’s original Penn Station more than a century ago, meeting people, sharing stories, and learning what it means to connect with others the right way: with pride, expert guidance, and care that felt personal.

That spirit lives on through today.
Stephen Weinberg, the current owner, grew up with Famous in the background like a constant heartbeat—pelts of fur, beautiful bolts of silk fabric, the warm scent of leather, the quiet confidence of a garment being tailored the way it should be. But the real inheritance wasn’t just craftsmanship. It was a philosophy: when someone trusts you with something they’ll wear out into the world, you treat that trust like something sacred.
After World War II, Stephen’s Father Lawrence—“Larry” to everyone who knew him—returned home from serving in the U.S. Navy and opened the family’s first New Jersey shop in Hudson County. It wasn’t a flashy expansion. It was a new chapter written the same way the first one was: show up every day, do the work beautifully, and take care of people like they’re your own. Over time, one customer told another. A first coat became a tradition. A purchase became a memory. And the shop became the kind of place people didn’t just visit—they returned to.

Today, under Stephen’s leadership, Famous 1915 has grown into an internationally recognized destination for discerning clients seeking luxury designer and custom women’s and men’s furs, leathers, shearlings, and exotics—including python, stingray, and crocodile. But what makes Famous different isn’t only what you wear. It’s how you’re treated while you’re there.
There’s a certain feeling you get when you walk into a place that remembers you—where someone asks how your family is doing, where they know the story behind the piece you bought years ago, where the experience is unhurried and honest. At Famous, the relationship matters as much as the garment. Whether it’s your very first piece or the next addition to a cherished collection, you’re welcomed with the same warmth and one-on-one attention—like a friend who always has a seat saved for you.
And because the Weinbergs believe that true luxury is care over time, Famous is a full-service house: restyling, repairs, cleaning, professional storage, and ongoing stewardship—so the pieces you love don’t just last, they live on. To many families, Famous 1915 doesn’t simply sell outerwear and accessories. It becomes part of the family story—passed down, worn again, remembered and treasured.
That’s the heritage of Famous 1915. Not just a century of exceptional craft—but a century of showing up for people, one relationship at a time.
